My Areas of Expertise
Creative People
“Artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide.” - DW Winnicott
Being a creative artist involves everything from deep personal journey of self expression, to the logistical minefield of dealing gatekeepers, Performing has a unique draw, it takes courage to embark upon it and courage to continually be vulnerable in the face of constant rejection. It allows you to expose your inner most secrets and fears, and it allows you to hide behind a façade. I specialize in helping artists overcome inner and outer obstacles along this journey, to explore their fears and feelings and to come to accept their ever-evolving artistic identities. Through my experience as a professional opera singer, I offer an understanding both the joys and challenges of developing the artistic career, having the career, and transitioning out of the career.
Non-traditional relationships
People in non traditional relationships face a culture of mononormativity, in which monogamy is assumed to be the default or most ideal relationship style. Frequently this social discrimination adds the challenges inherent in maintaining multiple relationships and devalues the benefits of living in the CNM/ENM/Poly universe such as increased communication skills, increased self knowledge, and increased sensitivity to others and awareness of own needs. I work with clinical issues related to polyamory, such as creating relationship agreements, navigating jealousy, the buoyancy of NRE and compersion, and developing healthy, ethical relationships.
Life Transitions/Identity formation
I specialize in helping people navigate transitions in their lives such as growing up and becoming a self-sufficient adult, parenting, the existential crises of middle age, changing careers, caring for an aging parent. I worked with LGBTQIA+ clients to cope with issues around identity including the coming-out process, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, workplace issues, and discrimination. I work with people to expand their sense of self in the world to include a multiplicity of identities, not just around sexuality and gender, but around work, life, and family relationships.
